SAHIWAL: A woman was shot dead while her young son was injured by their rivals at Chak 78/5-L in an honour related incident.
Yousafwala Station House Officer AD Shaheen told Dawn Khursheed Bibi’s eldest son, Arsalan, allegedly had relationship with his neighbour, Ayesha, a daughter of retired constable Muhammad Iqbal.
Arsalan worked with an American food chain at Mian Channu. Seven months back, Ayesha left her house and went to Mian Channu to meet him. Arsalan informed his father, Muhammad Latif, about her who told the girl’s father. The girl was brought back home but the incident became a bone of contention between two neighbouring families. A local Panchayaat was called which resolved the matter between them. Latif told Dawn Iqbal had fixed his daughter’s marriage within his family.
On Saturday night, Iqbal along with his two sons, Constable Muddasir and Mubashir entered Latif’s house. Muddasir was carrying a pistol while Mubashir was carrying an axe. Muddasir fired four shots at Khursheed and her son, Zainul Abideen. Khursheed died at spot while Zain got critically injured. He was shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital by Rescue 1122.
At hearing gunshots, the locals rushed to Latif’s house but the assailants escaped while leaving a 30-bore pistol and a mobile phone at the crime scene.
Yousafwala police registered a murder case on complaint of Latif. SHO Shaheen told the media that Muddasir was not a constable.
