BAHAWALPUR: A 35-year-old woman was allegedly burnt by her in-laws at 45 DNB village about 40 kilometres from here in the Yazman police jurisdiction on Tuesday.
According to police sources, Nazia was having strained relations with in-laws and she would complain about their mistreatment. On Tuesday morning, police said, the woman’s in-laws set her ablaze by throwing petrol on her and she was taken to the Bahawal Victoria Hospital (BVH) with critical burns.
Police registered a case against the suspects and said they would make arrests soon.
GASTROENTERITIS: Around 400 people have been diagnosed with having gastroenteritis in various hospitals in the last two days.
Officials of the health department said the patients of stomach issues reported in the BVH, the civil hospital, the tehsil headquarters hospitals and basic health units. They said most patients were children.
BVH Director Emergency Dr Aamir Bokhari said gastroenteritis and other similar diseases were on the rise due to scorching heat and 50 to 60 patients were admitted to the emergency ward.
BURIAL: Former MPA Dr Syed Waseem Akhtar was laid to rest here on Tuesday. He was the Jamaat-i-Islami South Punjab emir.
JI leaders and activists, Punjab Governor Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar, provincial ministers Mahmoodul Rashid and Samiullah Chaudhry, MNA Farooq Azam Malik and political leaders of other parties attended his funeral prayers.
Later, the governor visited the residence of former minister Baleeghur Rehman and condoled the death of his wife and son who were killed in a road accident last month.
CONGO VIRUS: A 23-year-old woman with symptoms of congo virus was admitted to the emergency ward of the Bahawal Victoria Hospital (BVH) on Tuesday.
According to doctors, her blood samples were sent to the National Institute of Health (NIH,) Islamabad for laboratory tests.
