HYDERABAD: Family members of Anila Meghwar, who had committed suicide in Badin a few days back after months of cyber-bullying and harassment, have said that in fact Anila has been killed and her murder is being made to appear like a suicide.
Anila’s father Dr Lakhman and her brother Madan Lal said at a press conference at the local press club here on Monday that the suspects and police were directly responsible for the murder of their loved one.
They accused police of deliberately trying to spoil her case and said that the suspects had been harassing and blackmailing her for the past one year on social media.
They had doctored her pictures and sent them to her fiancé to spoil her marriage and also used them to extort money from her, they said.
They said that she had been under immense stress due to their blackmailing for a long time.
They submitted an application to police 18 days before her death but police did not take any action and that was why they believed Anila’s suicide was in fact a murder, they said.
They said that although the case was to be lodged under cybercrime laws but police did not insert the relevant section in order to exploit it.
They appealed to chief justice of Sindh High Court, Inspector General of Police Sindh and ISPR authorities to take notice of the incident and hold an impartial investigation into the death of their loved one.
They sought protection for their lives and said that they felt disappointed because a month had passed but no authority had taken notice of it yet. The suspects posted her edited pictures on social media regularly and in one of the pictures, one of the suspects was carrying an official weapon in his hand, they said.
They said the suspects’ mobile number traced by police was in the use of someone in Quetta but police had neither included it in the investigation nor the picture with suspect’s picture with official weapon.
Three suspects had been booked but some influential people were trying to use their clout to get the case settled out of court. Badin police remained inactive as far as investigation of the case was concerned, they said.
