RAWALPINDI: A man was injured in a gas cylinder explosion in Shah Khalid Colony, while another was hospitalised after he was shot by armed men on offering resistance during robbery in Sadiqabad area on Friday.

The first incident took place in Gulzar-i-Quaid where an owner of a liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) decanting shop was injured after the cylinder exploded.

Investigating officer Mohammad Tahir said Umar Khan was refilling a cylinder when it exploded due to overfilling.

“It didn’t cause major damage; the shop owner was however injured and later shifted to the Holy Family Hospital where he was stated to be in stable condition,” he said.

Refilling of gas cylinder has been banned in the city but there are several shops involved in this illegal business.

Meanwhile, Amir Khaliq, a resident of Khurram Colony, was on his way home after withdrawing Rs70,000 from a nearby bank when two masked men blocked his way in a street. When he tried to resist the robbers, he was shot in his legs. The robbers escaped with the cash.
