‘PCB to part ways with Arthur, Inzamam after World Cup’

KARACHI: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided not to renew chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq and head coach Mickey Arthur’s contracts, which ends with the conclusion of World Cup in mid-July, it has emerged.
Former captain Aamir Sohail is already being considered as the chief selector in place of Inzamam whose three-year contract will end in July.
“Aamir’s name is top among the list of short-listed contenders. PCB’s managing director Wasim Khan will make the decision on new appointments for the position of the chief selector and head coach,” a reliable source in the PCB told Press Trust of India (PTI) news agency.
Aamir has in the past been the chief selector between 2002 and 2004.
It had been decided in principle to make the changes regardless of how the national team fared in the World Cup beginning on May 30, added the source.
“Changes will be made as to when Ehsan Mani took over as chairman and then brought in Wasim Khan as MD. There was nothing they could do about the key positions since there was little time left before the World Cup. But both are not very happy with some of the decisions taken by Inzamam and Arthur as chief selector and head coach,” the source was quoted as saying by PTI.He said it was yet to be decided whether a foreigner will replace Arthur or the choice will be a local player.
The source said whoever is appointed head coach will bring in his support staff.
“There is even a lobby in the PCB which has talked about making Inzamam the head coach after the World Cup,” the source said.
Inzamam is presently in England and will remain there until the match against India and according to the source, he will be involved in finalisation of the playing XI for all the matches now.
Interestingly Arthur, who has been with the Pakistan team since 2016, had inquired before the World Cup if they were planning to give him an extension in his contract as he was interested in settling down for another term with the national team.
“But Mickey was told a decision would be made later, and he should focus on the World Cup.”
Another former Test player, Saleem Jaffer, is also in line to take over as chief selector of the national junior selection committee.

What is most surprising here is the timing and source of this news. Why would a "source" in PCB leak this news to Press Trust of INDIA and not to any local channel/jounalist and that too just a day before the WC starts? What if a Pakistani news outlet publish something similar about Ravi Shastri citing "souces". To me this is an attempt to demoralize the team & coaching staff just before the megaevent.

No matter what happens please give Younis Khan and Misbah ul Haq stton solid roles in PCB. These two legends are honest to Pakistan, very hardworking and want to build solid cricket structures in Pakistan. Aamir Sohail is a blunt and unbiased man. Rashid Latif and Aamir Sohail should be considered for roles within PCB but have the MisYou duo as they know modern cricket better than anyone.

I think we don't need big names for chief selector. It has been evident that big names were always involved in promoting there own interest. Selections are mostly done on the basis of likes and dislikes and previous grudges with senior team members.
A mechanism should be in place to judge the selection ability of ex cricketers rather than keeping their achievements in mind.

It certainly cannot be a motivating factor just before the start of the world cup.
Focus must have immediately shifted away from the world cup. Instead, the attention must now be concentrating on speculations about yet to be announced incoming management.
How unwise is it to distract the team players, the coaches and the staff just before the start of the world cup? Could we not have made this announcement until after the world cup was over in July? What was the urgency?

Now please avoid hiring foreign coaches and instead select head coach and chief selector from wonderful local legends.

It is not enough for the chief selector or coach to understand the game, which both Aamir Sohail and Inzimam clearly do. But in addition, they have to be charismatic such that they are able to motivate and encourage the players while at the same time always being positive, rational, and above all, unbiased. These are qualities which neither Aamir Sohail nor Inzimam appear to have. So in my opinion, both should not be part of the setup. We miss you dearly Bob Woolmer.

Not sure if selecting Sohail and Jaffar would be an upgrade.
At least Inzi invested in good number of youngsters in his tenure - Fakhar, Shadab, Hasan, Shaheen, Hasnain, Faheem, Rizwan, and his nephew are among those youngsters he handed chances to.
Not the most efficient of selectors, but at least he did not recycle tried and tested failures like previous selectors did

Why Mickey? He improved fitness and attitude of our players, the basic fundamental of this sports. No other coach focused on fixing these issues as much as Mickey did. He also won us ICC trophy. This is unfair to him. Let him be the coach for another 2 years at least

Mickey was and is a good coach. He tries his damned hardest to instill his regime ino the team. Its just our players lack the mental awareness in games. Pakistan has lost so many games from the jaws of victory. The test series loss to sri lanka in UAE started the mental instability in our players and it has been going downhill from there.
Pak team's biggest failure is lack of pinch hitters and high dot ball percentage and lack of innovative shots. I don't know anyone in the Pakistani team who can do a dilscoop or a reverse sweep for 6. The lack of improvisation is costing Pakistan.

Misbah for tests for all his experience and success as captain
and Dean Jones for limited overs as he gelled with United players very nicely and gave results with no big names in united

The Mega Event is on and the Job security concern are being spread. Previously remove the captain ,then sack some players , then rift between PCB ,Patron and regional boards. Players jobs in departments/departmental are gone or about to go.
