KARACHI: Neighbourhood Club won the basketball title when they humbled formidable One Unit Cub 57-47 in an exciting final of the Mehmood Ahmed Khan Trophy Basketball tournament organised by KBBA in collaboration with the Pakistan Sports Welfare Association at Arambagh Basketball court on Friday night.

Abdullah Shah and PIA pilot Raja Jahanzeb were on a shooting spree, scoring highest 17 points and 16 points respectively in their team’s triumph. They got full support from Hammad N.D. Khan who contributed 14 points.

For the losing side Tashfeen scored 19 points, Kashif 14 points and Talal 9 points. They scored brilliantly but their contribution failed to save their team from defeat.

Abdullah Shah and Kashif Sarwari were jointly declared Men of the Tournament award winner.

Commissioner Karachi Iftikhar Shalwani, who was the chief guest on the occasion, distributed trophies and awards to both winners up teams as also to individual players.

Speaking on the occasion, Commissioner Karachi said that the way the city is abuzz with sporting activities at night in the holy month of Ramazan is ample proof of the fact that peace has been restored in the city. He said that soon work on basketball and hockey tracks will be initiated at YMCA ground while from June 20 , a grand Commissioner Cup basketball will commence at the Arambagh basketball courts.

Former Minister Prof N.D. Khan, KPT Sports Manager Col Baseer Alam, Khalid Jameel Shamsi, Shahida Parveen Kiyani, Engineer Mehfooz ul Haq, Muhammad Arshad, Saleem Khamisani, Azmatullah Khan, KBBA President Gulam Muhammad Khan and the tournament patron Mehmood Ahmed Khan were present on the occasion.
