APROPOS the letter ‘Criminology’ (May 2). Criminology is an emerging field and the Sindh police have taken up the task of streamlining the faculty of police studies where criminology, terrorism and the criminal justice system are taught. In this regard, a Memorandum of Understanding is in its formative phase with one of Karachi’s leading universities.

Furthermore, efforts are being taken to revamp the Sindh Police Research and Study Centre at the Central Police Office for equipping it with the latest tools of research methodologies.

Analysis of data, identification of crime trends, community-oriented policing, problem oriented policing and upgrading rules and regulations will be the tasks initially assigned to the SPRSC.

Police studies shall open avenues for students who wish to have careers in law enforcement. It will also help people understand police work — responsibilities, rights, duties and limitations.

The syllabus will be designed by the SPRSC in collaboration with other universities. The faculty shall be run by the SPRSC while researchers will be outsourced to conduct research on topics pertaining to the police force. The Sindh police take pride in this noble educational contribution for the betterment of society.

We are proud to serve.
