GUJRAT: The entire leadership of the Pakistan People’s Party on Saturday converged in Lalamusa town of Gujrat to console the tragic death of their colleague Qamar Zaman Kaira’s son Osama Qamar Kaira, who along with his friend Hamza Butt died in an accident on Friday.

Funeral prayers for Osama Qamar Kaira and Hamza Butt were offered in Lalamusa on Saturday where prominent political figures as well as thousands of political workers from across the country attended the funeral after which the deceased were laid to rest in a local graveyard.

The party had already announced suspending all of its political activities across Pakistan for Saturday to mourn the sudden and tragic death of Kaira’s son as senior most leadership of the PPP arrived in Lalamusa.

Former president and PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, former prime ministers Yousuf Raza Gilani, Raja Pervez Ashraf, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, federal ministers Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed, Fawad Husain Chaudhry, Ghulam Sarwar Khan, senior PPP leaders Aitzaz Ahsan, Syed Khursheed Shah, Punjab Information Minister Samsaam Bukhari, former chairman Senate Nayer Bukhari, former Punjab governor Latif Khosa, Senator Farhatullah Babar, former deputy speaker of National Assembly Fazal Kareem Kundi, former federal minister Nazar Muhammad Gondal, Nadeem Afzal Chan, Chaudhry Manzoor Ahmed, JI Punjab emir Dr Tariq Saleem and many others were among those who attended the funeral prayers.

The traffic remained out of gear along GT Road, Lalamusa, for more than an hour due to a logjam of vehicles parked on the national highway as the local administration and police could not handle the situation due to arrival of hundreds of vehicles in the city.

Osama Kaira, the youngest son of Qamar Kaira, was killed along with his friend when their speeding car went out of control and rammed into a roadside tree.

However, one of his (Osama) cousins, who was sitting on the back seat of the car remained unhurt in the incident as he did not sustain any bruises or injury but the boy who is said to be the scion of Sajid Zaman Kaira, the brother of Qamar Kaira, has been in shock since the incident took place, the family sources told Dawn.

Qul for the departed soul will be offered at Kaira House, Lalamusa, on Sunday (today) from 9am to 11am.
