KARAK: Traders have demanded an anti-encroachment drive in Karak city and a separate stand for rickshaws plying in the urban locality.

The demand was made at a meeting of the traders’ body on Tuesday.

The association’s press secretary Iqbal Khattak informed the media after the meeting that the encroachments in the main Karak city and the old bazaar were creating problems for not only the shopkeepers but also the consumers. He said there was no proper stand for rickshaws which resulted in traffic jams in the city.

He said traders had brought the issue into the notice of the quarters concerned, but no action was taken. He said underage boys were driving the rickshaws which caused accidents. He also demanded ban on the practice.

DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS: Activists of a local rights body on Tuesday pointed out that due to tussle between the councilors and the district administration development projects could not be initiated despite passage of the budget by the district council.

Speaking at a meeting, the members of Khattak Ittehad regretted that the district government had been practically inactive for last two and a half years.

The rights activists pointed out that the district nazim and naib nazim did not bother to attend the sessions of the council. They alleged that the district government had had failed to initiate any welfare project.

They warned that if the councillors did not pay attention to the problems of people then the rights organisation would mobilise the masses against them.
