LAHORE: Two more people succumbed to their injuries and the death toll of the roof collapse incident in the Bhati Gate area rose to six on Sunday.

The six deceased included a child and two women while four others were injured after roof of a three-storey house collapsed at Aslam Khan Mohallah of Bhati Gate a day earlier.

The top roof of the house was in dilapidated condition and caved in, trapping 10 members of the family trapped under it.

The Rescue 1122 removed the debris and pulled out those trapped under it. Four of them had died and two others later succumbed to their injuries at hospital.

The rescuers said the house was in a dilapidated condition and it caved in due to recent rains. However, the Walled City of Lahore Authority (WCLA), talking to the media, said the family was busy constructing a fourth storey of the 100-year-old house which resulted in damaging the building. They said the authorities would register a case against the family and would also take action against all illegal constructions in the Walled City area.

Punjab Health Minister Yasim Rashid and Lahore Deputy Commissioner Saleha Saeed visited the hospital and inquired after the injured. They also directed the authorities to provide all possible medical facilities to the injured.
