KARACHI: Prof Hashmatullah Khan Lodhi, a highly respected educationist and author, passed away after protracted illness here on Sunday night. He was 90.

People from all walks of life, including Chief Minister of Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah, on Monday condoled his death.

Prof Lodhi, also a brilliant hockey player in his younger years, having come very close to representing the British India’s all-conquering team, had served as a teacher for more than 45 years.

He also held the post of principal of different colleges and retired as an additional secretary for education in Sindh.

Funeral prayers of Prof Lodhi, father of Vice Chancellor of NED Engineering University Dr Sarosh Hashmat Lodhi, was offered at the central mosque of NED University’s Staff Colony after Zuhar prayers.

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah along with Minister for Local Government Saeed Ghani attended the funeral prayers. They offered their condolences to Prof Sarosh Lodhi.
