Nauman, Taha, Zainab clinch ranking tennis titles

KARACHI: Brilliant Nauman Aftab stunned Nameer Shamsi in a well-contested mens singles final here to win the title at the17th Westbury Open tennis Championship which concluded at the DA Creek Club on Friday. In the under-15 singles final, Taha Aman overcame a stiff challenge from talented Yahya Ehtisham to clinch the title in style.

In the ladies singles final, Zainab Ali got the better of Varsha Das in straight sets while Laraib Shamsi beat Eshal Zain to win the under-9 title.

Farhat Rashid Jan Muhammad of Westbury Group was the chief guest while Salim Saifullah Khan, President PTF, was the guest of honour.

Speaking on the occasion Salim Saifullah said that Pakistan is now among the top six tennis playing nations of Asia and will compete against India in Davis Cup this September in Pakistan.

U-9 Singles (Final): Laraib Shamsi bt Eshal Zain 5-3,4-0

Ladies Singles (Final) zainab Ali bt Varsha Das 6-4.6-0

Mens Single (Final): Nauman Aftab bt nameer Shamsi 7-6. 6-4

U-15 single Final Taha Aman bt M Yahya Ehtasham 6-7,6-3, 6-4.
