As Nawaz refuses to be shifted to hospital, Maryam demands 'life-saving unit' in jail

Incarcerated former prime minister Nawaz Sharif continues to refuse to be shifted to a hospital for treatment of his worsening cardiac health, his daughter said on Friday, a day after the government allowed him to receive medical care from any facility of his choice.
Taking to Twitter after meeting her father in jail, Maryam Nawaz said according to cardiologists sent by the government to examine Sharif on Thursday, the former premier's heart disease has "worsened".
In these circumstances, she wrote, "I request the Jail authorities to establish an immediate resuscitation and life saving unit on [the] Jail premises."
She said this was the least that her father deserved, being a three-time prime minister and "leader of [the] biggest political party & of millions of people".
Her request comes a day after Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry revealed that Prime Minister Imran Khan had directed the Punjab government to give Sharif access to the hospital and doctor of his choice. He said the premier had directed the provincial government to provide the former prime minister with the best medical facilities and called for implementation of the recommendations of a medical board that recently examined him.
He later said Khan's directive “indicates that the PTI government has no personal enmity with any person”.
Separately, Punjab Chief Minister’s Spokesperson Dr Shahbaz Gill said he had met Sharif on the directives of Prime Minister Khan and Chief Minister Usman Buzdar.
Concerns over deteriorating health
Sharif is serving a seven-year jail term awarded to him in the Al-Azizia corruption case at the Kot Lakhpat jail. In recent days, his family members and PML-N leaders have raised concern about the former prime minister’s reportedly deteriorating health and treatment options available to him.
Maryam had on Wednesday quoted her father as saying that he wasn't ready to be shifted to hospital because authorities had allegedly been "pushing" him from one hospital to another, and that he did not want to "become the target of ridicule being done in the name of treatment".
On February 25, the Islamabad High Court had rejected a petition seeking Sharif's release on bail on medical grounds.
“None of the reports [about Sharif’s condition] suggest that continued incarceration of the petitioner, in any way, would be detrimental to his life,” the court’s detailed judgement had said.

Being a 3 time prime minister and leader of a biggest political party who has allegedly plundered billions of the millions of people's money can have the sense to use some of it for a best disposal care unit out of his own money subject to authorities approval.Being bold as a strategy never means to be in news for reasons of getting late legacy.

Why is he refusing to get treatment in a hospital of his choice in Pakistan specifically when his family and supporters demand it? Pakistan is facing more serious problems and we expect him to refrain from creating unnecessary situations for the government and people. Three time PM is certainly able to conduct himself more reasonably and responsibly.

Not sure what the nature of illness is, but Pakistan still lacks substantial health treatment services, both in terms of newer equipment, medicine and procedural experience. Given ones affordability and resources, one can choose to get treated anywhere. It's simply a trust factor and the likeness.

He has the right to refuse medical care. There is no need to set up a so-called life-saving and resuscitation unit in the jail just because no hospital in the country that he has ruled over multiple times is up to his lofty standards.

Sure, if he is willing to pay to have this ward made it the jail, it should be allowed...if it is so necessary, i assume he will not mind paying for it.....after all, he has taken so much of Pakistan's resources, this may offer an opportunity for him to return some

Are rules and regulations only for commoners? Extremely disappointed with the leniency shown by the Naya Pakistan government.

Now Mr Nawaz Sharif does not want to go to hospital, but when it suited him, when his bail application was spending before the High Court, where he was seeking bail on medical grounds, he rushed to the hospital and returned only when his gambit failed. Now he's endeavouring to get political mileage of his incarceration, which I may add, was not on political grounds, but was found guilty of corruption by a court of competent jurisdiction. The former PM, made the choice and it is his choice and his alone and he must bear the consequences

The government should allow this state of the art facility from Sharif's family wealth and name it "Global Resucitation and Life Saving Center". The facility should be half in Jail premises with partitions for private outpatients who can pay for treatment. The generated revenue should be reinvested in the clinical and prison facility.

Nawaz Sharif and family should stop this health issue drama. What is medical treatment?.It is a combination of giving medicines and surgical treatment on consent of the patient. He is already getting relevant medicine.But has refused to undergo angiography/ angioplasty. He and family better stop this politicking.

these are pressure Technics, which NS, family and his lawyers are pursuing to force Supreme court to allow and accept their application for bail. I am sure and hope Supreme court will hold on to IHC decision to reject bail application. NS is no different then other convicts behind bar irrespective of his past position, which carry no weight now.

The PLM-N must have built excellent state-of-the-art medical facilities and trained specialists in the many decades of power in Punjab. Nawaz , I’m sure would have full confidence if this and his brother’s work in the medial infrastructure they have buil in Punjab.
Nothing to worry about. Nawaz is in good hands. Inshallah will recover to full health under the care of his loving family, the jail authorities and the wonderful medial staff in Punjab.
