KASUR: A man was allegedly tortured to death by the Kanganpur police at village Mokal on Sunday.

The police denied the allegation, saying the victim had died of cardiac arrest.

According to details, Sadiq Dogar and Muhammad Liaqat had a monetary dispute over cattle business.

On Sunday, Dogar along with his son came to the outhouse of Liaqat and demanded money. The police received a call on its helpline that the robbers had entered the outhouse of Liaqat and held the inmates hostage.

When the police reached the outhouse, Dogar and his son tried to escape but the police arrested the former. According to Dogar’s family, while he was being taken to the Kanganpur Police Station, the police continued torturing and humiliating him on the way. They alleged that Dogar had died of police torture.

According to Sajid Hussain, a spokesman of the district police office, the police had neither arrested Dogar nor had tortured him and he had died of a heart attack. He said DPO Shahzad Asif had constituted an inquiry, committee headed by DSP Chunian, to look into the incident.

INJURED: A boy was injured critically during jubilation fire at Zaheer Colony in the Chunian area.

According to the police, guests at the wedding of one Muhammad Ali resorted to firing into the air. Ali Raza, 12, who was standing on the roof of his house was hit by bullets and got injured.

He was rushed to hospital where his condition was stated to be critical. The accused managed to escape.

Later, the police claimed to have arrested a suspect and recovered a weapon from him.
