LAHORE: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has announced supporting the PPP candidate in a bypoll in Multan.

Multan’s PP-218 constituency had fallen vacant last month after the death of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) MPA Mazhar Abbas.

“The PML-N has assured the PPP of its support in the by-election. The PML-N and the PPP had decided in multi-party conference that the runner-up candidate would be a joint candidate in the bypoll,” PML-N Punjab spokesman Attaullah Tarar said in a statement issued on Tuesday.

According to a source, Shahbaz Sharif had given an assurance to support the PPP candidate during his meeting with PPP senior leader Khurshid Shah in Model Town on Monday.

The source said Mr Sharif also asked PML-N candidate Abdul Ghaffar Dogar to withdraw in favour of the PPP candidate.
