HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Monday remanded Rehman Shaikh, a suspect arrested in the murder case of a deaf and mute woman, in police custody for seven days.

Shaikh was produced in court by the Kotri SITE police with a request of seven-day remand.

The 22-year-old woman, Shireen Brohi, was killed in her house located in Sawan Khaskheli village of the Kotri SITE area on Feb 16 by unknown intruders.

Later, police picked up and booked Shaikh in the murder case.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Muslim League-Functional (PML-F) MPA Nusrat Sehar Abbasi visited the bereaved family to condole the death. Speaking to reporters, she criticised the Sindh government for its failure to curb such incidents. She said the incidents like murders of Naila Rind, Tania Khaskheli, Ramsha Wassan had already been a cause of concern to all and now that of Shireen Brohi was regrettable.

She noted that the deaf and mute woman was killed in the home district of Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah but he had not yet bothered to visit the bereaved family.

She said the Sindh government had failed to establish its writ by effectively implementing laws. She also criticised holding of jirgas to settle such cases, saying that if the murder cases of Ramsha Wassan, Shireen Brohi and others were allowed to be settled by jirgas, then the chief minister should resign.
