Pakistan prevent series whitewash, win third T20 against South Africa

Pakistan managed to secure a consolation victory on Wednesday in the third Twenty20 international against South Africa at SuperSport Park.

The green shirts defeated South Africa by 27 runs, thereby denying them the chance of clean sweeping the series.

South Africa were given a target of 169 against which they only managed to score 141.

Mohammad Amir took three wickets whereas Shadab Khan and Faheem Ashraf took two each.

In the first innings, left-arm opening bowler Beuran Hendricks took a career-best four for 14 as South Africa restricted Pakistan to 168 for nine.

Seven Pakistan batsmen reached double figures but the highest score was 26 by Mohammad Rizwan.

Seeking a consolation win after losing the first two matches in the series, Pakistan made a fast start but were unable to put together any significant partnerships.

A mid-innings collapse when three wickets fell for five runs in nine balls reduced Pakistan to 94 for five, with Rizwan, captain Shoaib Malik and Hussain Talat falling in quick succession. Malik was run out for 18 after a mix-up with Talat.

Shadab Khan hit three sixes in the final over from Andile Phehlukwayo to finish with 22 not out off eight balls. The last over cost 21 runs.

Babar Azam again gave Pakistan a good start, striking 23 off 11 balls before he was caught at cover off Chris Morris in the third over. Morris finished with two for 27.

Some Conclusions:1- Asif Ali needs to prove he deserves to be in the national Team, how many chances are too many. 2-Fakher is not reliable, same goes for him.3-Players prefer Malik to Sarfraz, Batsmen scored much higher than under earlier scores under Sarfraz. 4-Shoaib Malik has more respect and communication skills. 5-Amir made the difference, his presence is good for the team, he can rise to higher level and performs better against big teams.6-Amad wasim is under rated as run scorer and bowler. 7-Why forget about Rahat Ali, Sohail Khan, Junaid, Wahab Riaz, Fawad Allam?

First two T20s went right down to the wire amd third one was a comprehensive victory, not taking anything away from SA performance, but the 2-1 result is perhaps not as bad as it looks for Pakistan.

@fairplay - Actually India played the T20 game against NZ without almost half their regular players - Kohli, Bumrah, Shami, Rayudu & Jadhav were rested. BCCI is clearly not taking this T20 series seriously and is more interested in getting ready for the world cup. BTW, since last year India has won T20 series is South Africa, England & Australia. They have nothing to prove to anyone.

We have the players it is matter of right combination, and right leadership. With this regard, Rizwan is a good bat but I suspect better suited for test matches. Sarfaz as a leader and player better suited for ODI and t20. Amir is also suitable for shorter version and when playing UK. Imam can also be slotted in t20, Imad amd Shadab are good short form players. Imad could also be a good option for captain, he is a competitor and did captain u19 well.

Anytime India cricket management selects a team they represent India and they lost fair and square to New Zealand, I don't expect to be good at every format. Well played New Zealand!!! @JACKJONES - People like you said that India won in Australia because two key Australian players were missing. Now the same logic doesn't work for India with 6 of its regular players missing? Losing without 1 or 2 key players could be an excuse but losing without 6 of your regular playing 11 is not. BCCI is clearly in experimentation mode before the world cup. That's not an excuse, its a fact.
