BUNER: Traffic police have launched a campaign against the overloaded trucks in the district on the requests of local people.

The local people have time and again raised the issue of overloaded trucks, saying they pose threats to other vehicles and pedestrians. They say that the overloaded trucks carrying marble also damaged roads. They also complained about the overloaded trucks to Malakand commissioner and DIG during their visits to the district.

The newly posted DPO, Shahid Ahmed Khan, took notice of the issue and complaints of local people. He said that overloading was prohibited under the law. He added that the drivers overloaded their trucks to carry more goods.

The DPO said overloading of trucks was harmful for road, human beings and vehicles. He said that the overloaded trucks carrying marble also created traffic jams in the district.

However, Marble Truck Owners Association patron-in-chief Said Ahmed Khan, president Abdul Satar Bunerwal and secretary general Shapareen Khan said that they were paid for the trip and not for the weight they carried in their trucks.

They showed concerns over the action initiated against the marble carrying trucks. They said the trucks were loaded at the marble mines where there was no system of weighting the load.

They said that it was unjustified to stop loaded trucks on the main roads and impose heavy fines on the drivers. They said that load weighing system should be installed at the marble mines to resolve the issue.

TMA: The Daggar tehsil council on Thursday approved the purchase of a piece of land measuring two kanals and 15 marlas for putting up the tehsil municipal administration’s own building.

The land is located along the main Daggar Pir Baba Road in Elai village union council.

The council, which met convener Khalid Khan in the chair, also approved a proposal for the establishment of a public park at Adalat Chowk.

The proposal was later submitted to the finance committee of the house for the funds’ approval. TMO Amin Khan said work on the TMA building would begin soon after the legal requirements were met.
