Basant killings

Published January 31, 2019

ONCE again Basant festival is on, which has seen several throat-slitting incidents in the past. The festival may bring joy to some people but kite strings become dangerous when they either injure people or sometimes even cause deaths, for a sharp string is capable of slitting someone’s throat.

The government had imposed a ban on kite flying in Punjab, but this ban was lifted because of pressure and the wish of those who indulge in this activity. Recently, it has retracted its decision to lift the ban on celebrating Basant.

We cannot afford to lose precious lives just on the wishes of some people who want to have fun at the cost of people’s lives.

The government should resolve this issue once and for all to save people’s lives.
