QUETTA: The Balochistan Local Government Department on Monday took over the charge of all local bodies after dissolution of these institutions and appointed Ghulam Farooq Langove as the administrator of Quetta Metropolitan Corporation.

All local bodies’ institutions stood dissolved on Sunday after completion of their four-year term and the provincial government has started the process of appointing administrators for running local bodies’ institutions till the holding of next local bodies’ elections.

According to an official notification issued by the local government department, the former director general of Quetta Development Authority, Ghulam Farooq Langove, had assumed the charge of his new office.

The department has directed officials concerned to seal all local bodies’ offices and return to the provincial government all official vehicles being used by former local government’s representatives.

However, former mayor of Quetta, Dr Kaleemullah Kakar, has filed a petition in the Balochistan High Court against dissolution of local bodies’ institutions before completion of their five-year term and freezing of approved funds for different development projects.

“We took oath of our offices on Feb 18, but the provincial government has dissolved all local government institutions before completion of the five-year term of LB institutions,” Dr Kaleemullah Kakar said.

Meanwhile, Provincial Election Commissioner Ghulam Israr Khan said that the process of new delimitations for local bodies’ elections would start from Jan 31 and it would be completed in the next two years. “The provincial election commission will hold local bodies’ elections after completing the delimitation process,” Mr Khan said.
