Joint azan

Published January 18, 2019

APROPOS the letter on this subject (Jan 16). I am afraid I do not agree with the suggestion. The main purpose behind the multiple pronouncements of azan is to enable everyone to be in the mosque of his choice according to his belief. It is one of the important tasks of every mosque to call Muslims to come to mosques for congregational prayers.

Pakistan came into existence in the name of Islam, and it is a matter of great pride that we have lots of mosques and hear azan from every corner.

Finding a mosque in foreign countries is a cumbersome exercise and hearing of azan is rare.

APROPOS the letter above (Jan 16). Many citizens support the views put forth by the writer. The call for prayer should be collective and uniform. I found this to be the case in Egypt when I visited the country.

Another issue that needs the immediate attention of all Pakistanis particularly our decision makers is the population growth rate.

In 1947, Pakistan’s population was 75 million, of which West Pakistan’s population was 33.7 million. After 72 years we have grown to a whopping 220 million or a nearly 700 per cent increase! How can any country sustain such explosive growth?
