SWABI: Different political and religious leaders expressed condolences on the death of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-F patron-in-chief Maulana Hamdullah Jan, who died in a Peshawar hospital the other day and was laid to rest here on Sunday.

Maulana Fazal Ali, JUI-F central naib chief, said Maulana Hamdullah would be remembered forever among the religious scholars and his students because his religious contributions were unmatched.

“I can proudly say that his contribution to religious education is unmatched and thousands of his students would keep his name alive,” he said.

He said the JUI-F and religious circles were deprived of a great personality.

Leaders of Pakistan Muslim League-N, Pakistan Peoples Party, Jamaat-i-Islami, Qaumi Watan Party and Pakistan Tereek-i-Insaf, in their condolence messages, expressed sympathies with the bereaved family and prayed for the departed soul.

Earlier, Maulana Hamdullah was laid to rest in his ancestral graveyard in Dagai village of Razar tehsil.

According to his family he was born in 1914 and passed away in a hospital in Peshawar where he had been under treatment for a long time.

He was father of Maulana Latifullah, who is head of Jamia Mazhar-ul-Ulum Dagai.

Maulana Jan received his early religious education from his father, Alama Abdul Hakeem and uncle Maulana Sadeeq, both were prominent religious figures. Later, he completed his religious education from different leading religious institutions, including Deobund.

His funeral was attended by numerous religious scholars from across the country, politicians and people from various walks of life.

He contested general elections from then NA-8, Swabi, but lost with a low margin.
