Amin, Zainab win tennis titles

KARACHI: Brilliant Amin Shafi overcame a stiff challenge from Parbat Kumar to win the U-18 singles final in the the 1st NBP National Seniors & Juniors Tennis Champ­ionship which concluded here at D.A Creek Club on Friday night.

Zainab Ali won her first national title when she beat Apsara Sheeraz in the girls U-18 singles final.

In the U-14 singles boys final, Yahya survived a scare from Mahatir Mohammad to win the title. Asad Ali Bhagat outplayed Rafi Darbari of Hyderabad in the 35-plus singles final.

Former Test player and CSR head of NBP Iqbal Qasim was the chief guest at the closing ceremony and gave away the trophies to the winners and the runners-up of various events. He promised NBP’s continued support for the national championship in 2019 as well.

U-18 Singles (final) Amin Shafi bt Parbat Kumar 6-4, 6-4

U-14 singles (final) N Yahya bt Mahatir Muhammad 7-6, 1-6,7-6

35-plus Singles (final): Asad Ali Bhagat bt Rafi Darbari (Hyd) 6-0,6-2

60-plus Singles (final): Karim Gul Agha bt Zafar Hassan 6-2,6-6 7-3.
