ISLAMABAD: Human Rights Minister Dr Shireen Mazari and Minister for National Health Services Aamer Mehmood Kiani inaugurated a separate ward for transgender people at Pims on Saturday.

Dr Mazari had directed the Pims administration to establish a separate ward for transgender people so that they would get treatment free of charge and without facing any inconvenience. Separate doctors will also be available for them.

The human rights minister said: “The step to establish a separate ward for transgender people has been taken under Transgender Law 2018.”

She said all provincial health ministers had been asked to set up separate wards for transgender people.

Dr Mazari further said those nurses and female doctors who faced any problem or harassment could call the Ministry of Human Rights’ helpline 1099 and lodge complaints and seek legal assistance.

On the other hand, Mr Kiani said four hospitals would be established in the capital. He also inaugurated the emergency service at Cardiac Centre and said by 2020, health cards would be issued to enable people to get treatment free of cost.
