ISLAMABAD / LAHORE: Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar on Tuesday left for the United Kingdom on a week-long tour to raise funds for construction of Diamer-Bhasha and Mohmand dams.

The Supreme Court of Pakistan and the Prime Minister of Pakistan Diamer-Bhasha and Mohmand Dams fund has so far received Rs7.9 billion.

During his visit, the CJP will address fundraising programmes in London, Manchester and Birmingham to be hosted by overseas Pakistanis, including famous boxer Amir Khan.

He will also address Muslim MPs at the British Parliament and meet the Lord Mayor. Addresses to the Law Society of Solicitors and Law Society of Barristers are also part of the chief justice’s visit.

Former president of the Supreme Court Bar Association Pir Kaleem Khurshid and Advocate Zafar Iqbal Kalanuri will join the chief justice during the fundraising campaign.

The CJP is expected to return on Nov 28.

Meanwhile, Justice Gulzar Ahmed on Tuesday took the oath as the acting Chief Justice of Pakistan. The oath was administered by Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed in a simple but dignified ceremony that was held in the Supreme Court building.

Judges of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, Federal Shariat Court and the Islamabad High Court and Attorney General for Pakistan Anwar Mansoor attended the oath-taking ceremony.

Senior puisne judge Justice Asif Saeed Khan Khosa also left for abroad separately.
