KARACHI: The city administration decided on Saturday that a database of restaurants, hotels and all eateries in the metropolis would be developed to ensure health safety standards.

Officials said a meeting chaired by Commissioner of Karachi Iftikhar Shalwani discussed the actions and efforts required by the city administration as well as the Sindh Food Authority after the recent deaths of two minor children in the city apparently due to food poisoning.

They said the meeting participants discussed actions required for inspection of food in hotels, restaurants and other outlets and for those violating health safety standards.

The officials said that the Sindh Food Authority director general Amjad Laghari, other officials of food authority, all deputy commissioners and officials of quality control authority department of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation were present in the meeting.

They said that the commissioner stressed the need for developing coordination and cooperation between officials of the district administration and the SFA.

He said the death of two minor brothers from suspected food poisoning was tragic and it was the duty of the city administration to ensure that such incidents should never take place in future.

The meeting participants formed coordination committees at district and subdivision levels to take action against restaurants and food outlets violating health standards in the city.
