KARACHI: Senior journalist Zakiullah Sharif, a former edition in charge of Dawn, died in the United States after a prolonged illness. He was 81.

His funeral prayer was held at Tracy’s Lowry mosque in California on Wednesday. He was laid to rest in the Mountain House graveyard.

He was the elder brother of former Dawn staffer and former vice president of the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists Azizullah Sharif.

Prior to joining Dawn, Mr Zakiullah remained associated with the PPI news agency and the defunct Morning News, Karachi, in different senior positions.

He leaves his wife, four sons and two daughters to mourn his death.
