ABBOTTABAD: The girls students of the Comsats University Abbottabad in collaboration with the Galiyat Development Authority have launched a cleanliness drive at the 9,200 feet high Mushkpuri hill in Galiyat.

A large quantity of garbage left over by tourists was picked by students who were provided special garbage collecting bags by the GDA.

President of Comsats Adventure Club Usman Shehzad and GDA official Ahsan Hameed had divided the area into blocks and a competition of lifting of garbage was held. Prizes and certificates were to be given to the students who made extra effort to clean the area.

The students and GDA officials have requested the tourists not to throw litter in the area and to use special bags made available to them on their arrival in Galiyat.

WOMEN EMPOWERMENT: Development of a society is linked with the development and empowerment of women. This was stated by speakers at a daylong seminar arranged at Abbottabad University of Science and Technology by Abbottabad Women Development Society in collaboration with BBC Urdu Service under the logo of “BBC She”. Topic of the discussion was ‘how the women presented in the media’.

AUTO THIEVES HELD: The police on Tuesday busted a four-member car lifters’ gang and recovered a car stolen from Ayub Medical Complex in July.

Those arrested were identified as Awais, Hammad Ahmed, Mohsin Khan of Mansehra and Younis of Balakot.

All the four accused were presented before a local magistrate who remanded into police custody for further interrogation.
