KOHAT: The district administration on Wednesday removed all temporary and permanent encroachments and handcarts from the main bazaar which were causing trouble to the pedestrians and traffic.

Assistant commissioner Abdur Rehman accompanied by officials of the tehsil municipal administration removed the unregistered handcarts from the roadsides during an operation. He warned the shopkeepers that if the administration found such structures in future the owners would be sent to prison and heavy fines would be imposed on them.

He said that encroachments and handcarts were a permanent source of nuisance to the people and could not be permitted in any case.

DRUGS SEIZED: Police seized drugs and weapons and arrested three persons here on Wednesday.

DSP Saddar Rokhan Zeb told mediapersons that the police arrested one Abdur Rehman from Lachi tehsil and seized from him two kilogrammes of heroin and 80 grams of Ice. He was sent to the lockup.

Similarly, they stopped a coach coming from Darra Adamkhel near Kohat Friendship Tunnel and recovered two Kalashnikov-type repeaters, 13 chargers and 1,000 cartridges. They arrested the alleged smugglers Vaqas Khan and Sabir Aman, both residents of Lakki Marwat. A case has been registered against them.

In another case, the Shakardarra police arrested a proclaimed offender, identified as Qalandar Khan.

TRANSPORT FACILITIES: Shia community elders at a meeting regarding peaceful Chehlum with deputy commissioner Khalid Ilyas demanded arrangement of transportation for dropping hundreds of mourners to their respective Imambargahs as no public transport would be available on that day.

At a meeting regarding Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain they also asked for official holiday of the government and private educational institutions so that some of their ulema who were school teachers could deliver speeches at the gatherings.

Nazim of Sher Kot union council Musawar Hussain said that as there was no transport available on the day, the administration should arrange the facility for them.
