ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court suspended the 20-year jail term for an employee of the Axact group in the fake degrees case on Friday and ordered his release. The court told Rizwan Shah, a senior manager of M/S Axact, to furnish surety bonds of Rs 500,000.

In July, the Sessions Court of Islamabad had convicted Axact owner Shoaib Sheikh, Rizwan Shah and 21 others in the fake degree scam case and awarded 20 years imprisonment under different charges.

Mr Shah challenged the conviction before Justice Athar Minallah. His counsel Raja Rizwan Abbasi and advocate Sohail Warriach argued before the court that the conviction was not sustainable since there was insufficient evidence to link the convicted persons with the crime.

Shoaib Sheikh, the owner, has also challenged his conviction before the court.
