PESHAWAR: Awami National Party has given call for strike across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Oct 12 (Friday) against the ‘unprecedented’ price hike and increase in taxes and import duties.

In a statement issued here on Tuesday, the party’s provincial president Ameer Haider Khan Hoti urged transporters, business community and traders to take part in the strike. He also asked district level units of the party to make preparations for the strike.

He said ANP would hold rallies at all the district headquarters of the province to pressure the government to revisit its economic policies and expected bailout package from the IMF. He said sky rocketing price hike was affecting citizens.

Meanwhile, ANP central president Asfandyar Wali Khan while expressing concern over wave of price hike said the country was being mortgaged to IMF and other lending agencies.

He said increase in prices of gas and petroleum products had resulted in increase in prices of all commodities that was directly affecting lower and middle class people. He said the government had surrendered to IMF and was ready to accept its conditions.
