KOHAT: The tehsil nazim here has reinstated three officials of tehsil municipal administration who were suspended by the secretary local government in a bribery case and asked them to resume work.

Assistant director local government Kashifur Rehman, when contacted, said that the competent authority in that case was the secretary local government. He said that former LG secretary Jamaluddin Shah had suspended the officials.

He said that they were employees of the local government therefore they could only be reinstated by the secretary after completion of inquiry. He said that the tehsil nazim had gone beyond his powers and the reinstatement orders issued by him had no legal status.

District councillor Dr Matiullah Shah said that under the rules the nazim had no powers to overrule the orders of the LG secretary and his decision to reinstate the officials was illegal.

It may be recalled that keeping in view complaints of the business community the LG secretary had suspended tax superintendent Farzand Ali, recovery officer Basheer Ahmed, tehsil officer revenue Imtiaz Ahmed and enforcement officer Vaqas Ahmed for taking bribe from businessmen.
