LAHORE: A judicial magistrate on Friday granted bail to two shopkeepers involved in beating as many women for shoplifting in the Batapur area.

The police arrested Chaudhry Ijaz Ahmad and Adnan Ahmad on Thursday after video of the incident went viral on social media and television channels.

The video showed the shopkeepers beating the women with kicks and fists and a baton in addition to keeping them in illegal confinement. They had accused the women of stealing valuables from their cloth shop.

The police produced the suspects before the court for their physical remand, however, the magistrate released them on bail.
