KARACHI: The Defence Day Basketball tournament will commence here on Thursday at the Arambagh courts with eight teams participating in it. Secretary Youth and Sports Sindh, Haroon Ahmed Khan will be the chief guest on the occasion.

The eight teams have been named after the recipients of Nishan-e-Haider. The teams have been divided into two groups. Group A comprises Capt Sarwar Shaheed Eleven, Maj Muhammad Tufail Shaheed Eleven, Sarwar Muhammad Hussein Shaheed Eleven and Captain Lalak Jan Shaheed Eleven.

Group B consists of Major Aziz Bhatti Shaheed Eleven, Maj Shabbir Sharif Shaheed Eleven, Lance Naik Muhammad Mehfooz Shaheed Eleven and Flight Lt Rashid Minhas Shaheed Eleven.

The second event will feature junior players and will be played on single league basis. Finals of both the events will be played on Sept 15.

The events being organsied KBBA in collaboration with PSWA to pay homage to the martyrs of the 1965 War. The three events will be held with the cooperation of NBP,KPT and DMC South.

The day’s programme also include a kids basketball match which will be played at 11:30am at the KPT Sports Complex.

In the afternoon, a girls basketball invitational match will be played at the same venue under the supervision of international player Abdul Nasir, Tariq Hussain and Zaeema Khaoon.

Later in the evening, the Defence Day Basketball tournament will commence at 6 p.m. at the Arambagh court.
