LAHORE: The home department has sent a summary to Chief Minister Usman Buzdar, seeking his permission to place before the cabinet a request to approve constitution of Commission for Police Reforms and Implementation desired by the prime minister.

As per the prime minister’s approval, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa former Inspector General of Police Nasir Durrani would head the commission.

Mr Durrani, at present, is a member of the Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC) and the officials said on Tuesday that he might have to leave his present assignment to head the proposed commission.

Terms and conditions of the commission would be settled afterwards, they added.

Divisional, dist peace committees denotified

Meanwhile, the Punjab government reconstituted the central law and order committee under the chief secretary but denotified all the divisional and district peace committees.

This was stated during the first meeting on law and order which was presided over by law minister Raja Basharat.

The committee on law and order comprised the chief secretary, home Secretary, IGP, additional IG Special Branch, additional IG CTD, and the joint DG intelligence.

It was stated that all divisional and district peace committees had been denotified to make the law and order situation foolproof during Muharram. New committees would be constituted comprising members from all schools of thought soon.

The minister said ministers would be deputed to monitor Muharram processions in different districts.
