PESHAWAR: Pakistan Council of World Religions-Faith Friends has expressed its concern over the frequent occurrences regarding blasphemous cartoons and urged the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to seek a permanent solution to the issue.

Speaking at a press conference at Peshawar Press Club on Saturday the council members Bishop Humphrey Sarfraz Peter, Prof Dr Qibla Ayaz, Hafiz Abdul Ghafoor, Allama Fakhrul Hassan, Haroon Sarbdiyal and Maqsood Ahmed Salfi condemned Dutch lawmaker Geert Wilders for floating the idea of holding competition of blasphemous cartoons.

They welcomed cancellation of the competition and said that organising such profane events could not be described as freedom of expression. They said that this practice causing mental torture and creating unrest among people of a religion should never be allowed in any country.

“The Faith Friends not only condemns but also demands legal action against such people who for personal ego or cheap popularity are hurting religious sentiments of millions of people across the world and create hatred,” the bishop said while reading out a joint communique.
