KARACHI: Karachi Basketball Club overcame a stiff challenge from Omega Club in a thrilling final to win the Independence Day Basketball tournament 53-45 here at Arambagh courts on Monday.

Akmal Jameel and Bilal remained the joint top-scorers for the winning side, each scoring 16 points. Fazeel Ahmed chipped in with nine points.

For Omega Club, Kenneth Johnson (16), Abbas Ali (14) and Anas Azhar (9) were the prominent contributors.

Col Mazhar Shah, who was chief guest on the occasion, distributed the prizes and trophies among the teams and players. He praised the KBBA for organising an impressive event.Akmal Jameel was named player of the tournament while Kenneth Johnson was named man of the match. Usman Club were awarded the fair play trophy.

Earlier, Laeeq Ahmed, Secretary Population Welfare Department Sindh, inaugurated the final.
