SIALKOT: Water level in the flooded Nullah Aik started receding on Thursday.
Earlier, the faster flow of water had doubled the width of 100-foot breach [to 200 feet] which occurred in the protective dyke of Nullah Aik near village Chodho Chak, Sambrial tehsil, three days ago. The breach had inundated dozens of surrounding villages.
Assistant Commissioner Sambrial Ms. Azubah Azim visited the spot and directed the respective officials of the irrigation department to make all-out efforts to ensure early repair of the breach.
The irrigation officials are yet to repair the breach which inflicted damage on seasonal crops spreading over hundreds of acre land in Sambrial tehsil.
Ms Azim assured the affected farmers of early provision of financial compensation
SHOT DEAD: A Daska-based trader was shot dead here on Thursday.
Police said some suspects allegedly fired bullets on Muhammad Nouman (26) and threw his body in fields near Bhobhangi-Partaanwali.
They handed over the body to the family after autopsy. Later, he was laid to rest in his native graveyard at Islampura, Daska.
Further investigation is under way.
KIDNAPPED: Some unknown men allegedly kidnapped a female brick kiln worker ‘S’ here on Thursday at Maallo Mahey, Daska tehsil.
Police have registered a case with no arrest.
Meanwhile, some suspects allegedly kidnapped daughter of a landlord when she was on her way to fetch water from a filtration plant at village Ismail Awan. Motra police have registered a case with no arrest.
