KARAK: A local leader of Jamaat-i-Islami was killed and two passers-by were injured when unidentified assailants opened fire on him in Takht-i-Nusrati area, police said on Friday.

They said that the victim, Nasir Mehmood, member of the district executive council of the JI, was in the Takht-i-Nusrati Bazaar when the attackers opened fire on him. He died on the spot. Two passers-by also sustained bullet injuries in the incident. They were taken to a local hospital wherefrom the doctors referred them to a hospital in Peshawar in precarious condition.

According to locals, the slain Mehmood was brother of JI tehsil president Tufail Mehmood.

Police claimed that there had been a land dispute between Nasir Mehmood and some local people. The police registered FIR against unknown persons and started further investigations.

In another incident, a man was killed and another was injured when two motorcycles collided on the Sabirabad-Shanki road on Friday. The victim was identified as veterinary doctor Hidayat Khan.

The injured identified as Shabbir Khan was taken to a local hospital wherefrom the doctors referred him to Peshawar in precarious condition.
