PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Advocate General Abdul Samad Khan on Thursday resigned from his post so as to enable the incoming chief minister to appoint a person of his choice to the post.

Mr Khan, who was appointed by the caretaker provincial government on June 26 for a period of three months, has sent his resignation to Governor Iqbal Zafar Jhagra, requesting that his resignation be accepted with immediate effect so that another person was chosen for the said office.

Mr Khan was appointed AG after the resignation of then incumbent Abdul Lateef Yousafzai, who was appointed during the previous Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf government in the province and had served against the said post for five years.

Mr Khan, who is a former judge of the Peshawar High Court, in his resignation states, “Since the incoming political government has nominated Mehmood Khan to be its chief minister, I therefore, feel constrained to resign from office forthwith enabling the incoming chief minister to select the person of his choice for the portfolio.”
