PESHAWAR: Mobile snatchers on Wednesday shot dead a person after he challenged them while they were snatching a phone from a teenager at gunpoint in Hayatabad area of the city, police said.

A police official said Abdul Hamid, a resident of Hayatabad’s Phase-III, challenged the robbers, but they opened fire on him while running away from the scene, killing him on the spot.

The official said that the police were searching for the accused while the body of the deceased had been dispatched to hospital for autopsy.

Meanwhile, SP city circle Shahzada Kokab Farooq told reporters on Wednesday that police had recovered about 10 kilogrammes of heroin and arrested an accused.

He said that the drug was being smuggled to Punjab from the Khyber tribal district.

He identified the accused as Naveed Khan, a resident of Shahkas area of Jamrud tehsil of Khyber.
