Water scarcity

Published August 8, 2018

WATER shortage has hit many localities in Lower Dir hard as natural springs and wells have dried up and residents are compelled to fetch water from far-flung areas.

During a visit to parts of the Adenzai district, including Chakdara, Ameerabad, Maidan, Kumbar, Talash and surrounding areas, I was told by the locals that a long dry spell coupled with less rains and snowfall were the main causes of water shortage.

They further said the shortage of rains has badly affected different crops, while tanker owners were selling water at an exorbitant rate of Rs2,000 per tanker.

The locals urge the provincial and district governments should construct water channels and dig new wells immediately.

WITH the PTI coming to power in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa again, it is unfortunate that a place like Saidu Sharif does not have a proper water supply system.

The PTI’s MPA never visited the area during his five-year tenure.

I request the authorities concerned to resolve the issue on an urgent basis.
