THE man who started his journey around two decades ago finally reaches his destination. An ideal leader comes to power. I heartily congratulate Imran Khan on his victory. He faced many hurdles in his struggle but never gave up.

He has won the hearts of millions. Every Pakistani expects a lot from Imran Khan and hopes for a prosperous future. The whole nation is looking forward to the fulfilment of the pledges he made. Let us hope for the best.

THE elections are over, and the PTI has won. Imran Khan will be our next prime minister. However, winning an election is not an end in itself. From the fragile economy, troubling external relations, rampant mismanagement to ubiquitous incompetence — a plethora of problems awaits the government. It is time to deliver and actualise all the promises; otherwise, it would become increasingly difficult for Imran Khan to retain his popularity.

I FEEL that Imran Khan’s victory is a breath of fresh air for Pakistan. He pledged that he would work for the poor. When was the last time any head of state said that he would work for the poor? There is a whole lot of problems to deal with, and he might have developed a to-do list to go about it.

One problem is the lack of literacy. Living in the United States, I do not know the current literacy rate in Pakistan, but it is clear that millions of Pakistanis are victims of illiteracy. It is an epidemic of people who cannot read.

According to Imran Khan’s speech, millions of kids are out of school. Therefore, educational reforms and a plan to eradicate illiteracy should be one of the priorities of his administration. I hope he will come up with a solid game plan to deal with this.

AFTER the PTI’s victory, it is being circulated on social media that New Pakistan is being developed and a new —young and energetic — leadership is going to take over. The country has plenty of challenges that demand a holistic approach to be dealt with.

The current economic and social indicators do not paint a rosy picture. Kudos to the Supreme Court of Pakistan for launching a dam fund to raise money for the Bhasha and Mohmand dams. Apart from water, there are economic, social, political and administrative challenges. If the PTI outlines all the issues systematically and scientifically, it can fix the problems in the shortest possible time.

There is no doubt that the entire nation has been energised by Imran Khan’s first speech. His speech reminded me of Woodrow Wilson. In the early 19th century, Woodrow Wilson was elected as the 28th president of the United States. At that time, economic and administrative condition was pitiable.

When he came to power, he brought revolutionary reforms and laid the foundation of a progressive and peaceful US. Similarly, Khan will take over a country in crisis. But his determination and the way the world has responded to his victory show that “change is not coming, change has come”.

FINALLY, after 22 years of efforts, determination, struggles and failures, Imran Khan’s party, the PTI, won a majority of the seats in the election. I give my heartiest congratulations to Khan and his supporters. The people of Pakistan have rejected an aristocratic system. In the words of Franklin D Roosevelt, “Democracy cannot succeed unless those who express their choice are prepared to choose wisely.”

On the contrary, it appears as if the people of Sindh do not want any change. The province has been facing severe issues for the last decade — lack of good governance, flaws in the education system, water scarcity, unemployment, poverty and so on. Democracy and dynastic politics cannot coexist.
