Activists belonging to Pakistan People's Party (PPP) on Saturday held a protest demonstration in Malir district of Karachi, and blocked the National Highway, after an application for recounting of votes filed by the party’s candidate who contested the July 25 general election from NA-237 was rejected by the concerned returning officer (RO).

PPP candidate Abdul Hakeem Baloch submitted an application before the RO for recounting of votes in NA-237, where PTI candidate retired Captain Jameel has been declared as the winner.

Following the rejection of the application by the returning officer, PPP workers staged a protest outside the Malir courts on main National Highway.

They staged a sit-in, owing to which traffic was suspended on the main road which links the city to the airport.

Contingents of the police rushed to the spot and persuaded the protesters to clear the way for traffic.
