LAHORE: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has summoned Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz president Shahbaz Sharif on Aug 20 in the Punjab Power Development Company (PPDC) corruption case.

The bureau has also summoned PML-Quaid leaders Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi in an inquiry involving owning assets beyond known sources of income. They have been asked to report to the NAB’s Lahore office on August 16.

In a fresh notice to Mr Sharif, NAB asked him to appear before its combined investigation team in Lahore in the PPDC scam.

The notice sent to the PML-N chief said: “The inquiry against the management and officials of the PPDC has revealed that you [Mr Sharif] are in possession of information/evidence related to unlawful appointment of Syed Farrukh Ali Shah in Nepra as member and PPDC as chief executive officer.”

Mr Sharif had earlier appeared before a joint investigation team of NAB Lahore in the Punjab Saaf Pani Company (PSPC) case and answered questions put to him by the investigators.

His son-in-law Ali Imran Yousaf is also facing corruption inquiries in both the PPDC and PSPC scams. The bureau has written to the interior ministry to bring him back from abroad through Interpol.
