Who will replace Maryam?

Published July 7, 2018

Can anyone replace Maryam, who up until less than 24 hours ago was the chosen one to take forward the Nawaz legacy in the July 25 polls.

But PML-N does not have a choice in this matter. The party will have to field a candidate in Lahore's NA-127 in Maryam's place as she now stands disqualified, as per the accountability court's judgement in the Avenfield reference.

According to an article in today's Dawn, PML-N Lahore president Pervaiz Malik’s son Ali Pervaiz could be next in line.

“Ali had filed nomination papers as my covering candidate. Now after the accountability court verdict against Maryam Bibi the party will decide who should replace her in NA-127 and PP-173,” Pervaiz Malik told Dawn

Ali had initially filed nomination papers in the NA-127 constituency but had to opt for NA-133 to accommodate Maryam. However, as luck would have it, Ali had yet to withdraw his papers and now is a likely replacement for the seat.
