KOHAT: Police would be deployed at all sensitive places, including mosques and imambargahs, during the Eid days. Cancelling leaves of the policemen, the district police officer also ordered deployment of officials at trade centers for security of shoppers.

Similarly, security has been beefed up in areas close to the Orakzai region and Darra Adamkhel.

According to a statement, five guards would be deployed at major mosques and Imambargahs each during the Eid prayers. It said that a comprehensive security plan had been finalised for Eid to avoid any unpleasant incident.

Directions have already been issued to the relevant police officials to ensure law and order in the district. They have also been directed to closely monitor suspicious activities.

“We need cooperation of the people for effective security and advise them to be extra careful in crowded places,” said the district police officer.

COMPENSATION: The district administration distributed compensation cheques of Rs23 million among the heirs of 30 dead and 43 injured members of Tableeghi Jamaat who had met an accident last year.

Deputy commissioner Khalid Ilyas gave Rs500,000 cheque each to the heirs of 30 dead, Rs300,000 to seriously wounded and Rs100,000 to those who suffered minor injuries in the accident.

He was accompanied by assistant commissioner, Lachi, Samiur Rehman and additional assistant commissioner, Kohat, Samiullah. All victims belonged to the Mandori village of Lachi tehsil and most of them were close relatives, who were going to attend Tableeghi congregation in Raiwind in Oct 2017. On their way their bus had fallen into a dry stream in Punjab in which 29 were killed on the spot and 44 injured.
