Contrary to earlier reports, former Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister Pervez Khattak is not among the defaulters of Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL), it emerged on Thursday.
Earlier reports had incorrectly identified the former KP chief minister as a SNGPL defaulter after the Election Commission of Pakistan released a report compiled by the gas company.
In its report, SNGPL had mentioned that the outstanding amount pertaining to Pervez Khattak, contesting elections from the PK-64 constituency, stands at Rs106,575,071 in one case and Rs82,422,320 in another.
The former KP chief minister explained that there are two people of the same name contesting against each other in the same constituency in Nowshera.
Khattak told DawnNewsTV that the name of the Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) candidate contesting against him is also Pervez Khattak. “The similarity in names might have created some confusion,” he said.

If Zufi can be removed from ECL, why the name of Khattak should not be removed from the list of simple defaulters of gas bill?
Good if Khattak is not defaulters .All government institutions should come forward and highlight their defaulted money. This is the time to recover their money and may be the only time when these influential people will pay their dues.
Race for "The Breaking News" has severely tinted the credibility of media and journalism. There was a time, now seems very long ago, that clips from papers were seen and produced even with official documents as proof. Not anymore.
Media must endeavour to produce accurate information and double check its reports before publishing. The media has a noble objective which is to inform and educate with accurate and impartial information. The tragedy in general and in developing countries in particular is that the media houses follow their vested interest and work in collaboration with political parties and hence lose the respect of the masses.Very sad state of affairs and consequently rule of law and establishment of proper system is hindered and obstructed.
The media must stick to factual reporting and reframe from making news. All media reporters must disclose their political loyalties To their public consumers. Most of the print and TV media have adapted standards that are contrary to principal of good journalism by creating void in objective reporting of facts.
With such examples, media is losing it's credibility.
It was obvious as Mr. Khattak was former CM and was being checked in 2013 elections.
@M. Saeed, Granted its the right person.
Bad news and rumor spreads fast before elections.
Media with vested interests is responsible for spreading misinformation about PTI.It is highly regrettable. Most of the media for me is unreliable.
