KOHAT: People blocked Bannu Road and burnt tyres here on Sunday against suspension of water supply in their area for the last three days.

SHO cantonment police station Mohammad Ali told this scribe that scores of women blocked the road to traffic near Janana Textile Mills area. They were complaining that despite several applications the staff of cantonment board was not solving water supply problem which had aggravated during Ramazan.

The SHO said the concerned officials had assured him that the problem would be resolved by 11am on Monday (today). The protesters opened the road and dispersed peacefully after getting assurance that the water supply would be restored.

PRISONERS RELEASED: Twenty-three prisoners involved in minor cases were freed during camp court held in Kohat jail as Ramazan gesture on the occasion of a visit by the district and sessions judge and judicial magistrate, Kohat.

A statement issued here on Sunday said that the district and sessions judge Shoaib Khan and judicial magistrate Riaz Aslam visited the jail where they conducted the camp court and issued orders for release of 23 prisoners involved in minor cases.

During the camp court they examined the residential barracks in prison and expressed satisfaction over the facilities available there. Orders were also issued for immediate resolution of the complaints presented by the prisoners before the judges. The jail administration released the prisoners after necessary legal work.
