APROPOS an ‘appeal’ published in Dawn by the Pakistan Automobile Manufacturers Association (May 11). I was amused by their following observation:
“Moreover, this decision will motivate filer-investors to buy vehicles and sell to non-filers on a hefty premium. It will likely slow down upcoming fresh investments and lose investors’ confidence in the Pakistani market.”
From the observation made above, it appears PAMA is quite comfortable with non-filers making hefty premiums. My question to PAMA is: “What stops non-filers from becoming filers and then continuing to make hefty premiums?
However, the issue regarding huge premiums on new cars needs to be addressed separately in a fair manner to protect both the public’s and manufacturer’s interests.
